The Iron Book
“A word does not arise by itself—it needs an author. The author knows the meaning of the word. Let me clarify from the start: I am not the author of the words that have entered the Lexikon—I am merely the typesetter. If you will, the constructor. My task is to assemble the letters, keys, and blocks correctly.
What you call a book is not actually a book. The real book remains in the printing house—no one sees it; what you receive are merely its prints, of better or worse quality. There is only one true book. It is, of course, heavy, inconvenient—you cannot flip through it—but in it, every letter is a thing in itself.”
